Sunless Tanning Routine

Hey ya’ll! So last week in my Summer Must Haves Post, I talked about how I was looking for the perfect sunless tanning products.  I have been around the block when it comes to sunless tanning products.  I have always had fair skin that just does not tan all that well. No matter how long I sit in the sun, I will pretty much burn and then go back to my fair skin tone. Each year I try more and more products, and come closer and closer to that perfect match.  For the past few weeks I have been using this combination of products and I have really been loving them! Out of all the products I have ever used, I have been most impressed with these!

One thing that I have consistently done for a few years now is spray tan.  The salon I go to changes from year to year, but they all have the Mystic machine.  Because I am very fair, I only get the light cartridge.  I have tried the medium one, but that one appeared too orange on my pink toned skin. Depending on what salon I’m going to, I try to find an unlimited program to get the most for my money.  I usually gone one to two times a week, depending on how the tan is wearing.  If I go to the pool a lot, usually it comes off faster, and therefore I will go more often.  If anyone is interested in hearing more about my spray tanning by it’s self, let me know! I would love to do that!

In addition to spray tanning, I do use two other products to enhance my tan between spray tans.  The first is the new Ulta Beauty Self Tanner.  I got it in the shade medium.  Usually I would go for the lightest shade, but the medium is more brown toned which helps to make my tan look the most natural. I also purchased the mitt that comes with this to apply the product. While I am pretty new to mouse tanners, I really enjoy this one! It is fast drying, and when applied with the mitt, it is almost streak free! I do however use it very lightly around my knees, elbow and ankles. I only use this product at night and I let the color develop and dry overnight.  This color builds up gradually, so I usually use it every two to three days.

I also use the Jergens Natural Glow daily moisturizer in the color light to medium. I put this product on after the shower, whether it is morning or night.  However, I don’t use this every day.  I usually use this product the days I’m not using the Ulta tanner.  This is also a very gradual, build-able tan. It also moisturizes my skin which is important while self tanning. Just like most self tanners, I use this one very sparingly around my knees, elbows, and ankles.

When using sunless tanning products, it is easier for it to look fake.  The best way I have learned to combat this is by adding a little bit of natural tan.  While I don’t tan super well, I do the best that I can.  Adding a little natural color to my sunless tan makes for the most natural look.  Some of my favorite sunscreens for tanning are Banana Boat and Sun Bum. I use SPF 50 on my face, and SPF 30 on my body.  When I know I’m only going to be out for a little, I will use the SPF 15 Oil.  These three products work together to help me a achieve a slight level of natural tan, without burning.

The last step to my routine is moisturizer.  This is one of the most important steps.  With all the shaving and sunless and natural tanning I do in the summer, it’s easy for my skin to become dry.  The Ocean Potion Aloe Lotion is my favorite after sun lotion.  If I happen to get burnt, it soothes the burns and prevents peeling.  It also has an amazing summery scent that I love! I also love to use the Body Shop’s Body Butters at night.  These are amazing moisturizers! Every morning when I wake up after using these I have the softest skin!

I hope you all enjoyed knowing a little bit about my sunless tanning routine! I hope you all are enjoying the beginning of the summer season!

Until Next Time
